The Electronic
Recycling Association of Alberta was formed
4 years ago, in Calgary, Alberta. Due to
the high demand for removal of old computer
equipment from offices, and increasing computer
equipment going to waste in landfills, and
recycling facilities. The ERA is determined
to collect all used computer equipment in
Alberta, and distribute the working items
back into the community. Both local and
foreign lower income communities can benefit
from what most Albertan's take for granted.
The ERA is a non profit private organization,
that collects, distributes, and recycles
computer equipment. Any profits generated
are put back into the organization, rather
than paid out to the shareholders. This
is the reason why our organization can offer
such great service. We put service and customer
satisfaction before profits at all times.
ERA was started by a group of people who
wanted to provide refurbished electronics
at low prices to those unable to afford
new equipment 4 years ago and it was formally
incorporated in 2004 as an association registered
with the societies act of Alberta.
ERA works with many public and private sector
organizations, collecting old computer equipment,
providing it to those otherwise unable to
afford it, or recycling the obsolete with
certified recyclers. |

Boutillier - MLA for Fort
McMurray-Wood Buffalo, Minister
of Environment |
 |
"Alberta
is a Canadian leader
in electronic recycling
and your association's
decision to open
collection depots
in the cities of
Calgary and Edmonton
will help sustain
this national leadership.
Since February 2005,
Alberta electronics
retailers have collected
an environmental
fee when they sell
a new television
or computer. These
fees are dedicated
exclusively for
|
|
the
collection and recycling
of discarded electronics,
under the management
of the non profit
Alberta Recycling
Management Association.
Congratulations
on your association's
decision to make
an environmental
difference by adding
your new depots
to the 75 e-collection
sites established
in Alberta." |

"In
the fast e-world,
obsolescence rushes
in at high speed,
overwhelming and
endangering our
lives with the technological
waste. The heavy
consumption in our
society need be
balanced with conservation
and recycling effort.
Our society needs
the e-recycling
effort, such as
Electronic Recycling
Association, so
it doesn't loose
its balance and
fall into an disintegrated
state. I commend
the work of Electronic
Recycling Association". |

"The
electronic recycling
initiative is an
important movement—one
that benefits our
community, our country,
and the greater
world we live in.
It addresses the
interconnectedness
of all things, in
particular, environmental
sustainability,
social responsibility
and community development.
It also offers an
excellent means
for companies to
start implementing
corporate social
responsibility practices.
Working with schools,
daycares and community
centers, both here
and in the developing
world, the |
Electronic
Recycling Association
of Alberta do an
incredible job to
provide a fundamental
service locally
and globally. Edmonton
is lucky to now
have its own depot—let’s
hope the service
keeps growing across
Canada!" |

for Edmonton Strathcona
I fully endorse
the Electronic Recycling
Association of Alberta's
efforts to help
clean up Edmonton.
Recycling electronics
is an important
step to reducing
waste in our landfills
and to helping our
environment. It
is especially rewarding
to see an organization
like this move into
our city where we
get the double benefit
of a cleaner city
and more jobs." |

"In
a country and province
where we so quickly
change and upgrade
our computer systems,
the Electronic Recycling
Association is meeting
a growing need.
Not only are you
focused on reducing
the amount of waste
in our landfills,
you have also found
a way to impact
both charitable
donations and developing
countries. I commend
your innovative
approach and thank
you for your contribution

"I
think the efforts
by the Electronic
Recycling Association
of Alberta are to
be commended. Keeping
waste out of the
landfills and allowing
for 30 percent of
the “used”
computers to be
put back into the
community is on
track and allows
Alberta to remain
a leader in recycling
initiatives. The
work that your association
does is truly an
act to follow. From
one passionate recycler
to another, keep
up the excellent
work." |

recycling of electronic

an innovative way
to protect Alberta’s

"Electronic
recycling is an
important piece
in working towards
a sustainable society
and reducing consumer
waste. I strongly
believe that initiatives
like the Electronic
Recycling Association
are imperative if
we want to make
the goal of waste
reduction a reality.
Refurbishing old
computers so that
they may be used
in non-profit societies
and/or donated to
people who need
them is a creative
solution, and assists
people who might
not |
otherwise
have the opportunity
to access a computer.
The benefits of
all forms of recycling
are only just beginning
to be seen, and
with the valuable
efforts of groups
such as the Electronic
Recycling Association,
we can work towards
the goal of a sustainable
environment while
drastically reducing
consumer waste in
Canada." |
