While it may no longer appear in daily headlines, victims of the Fort McMurray fire still need help from the community, potentially now more than ever. We want to help.
On May 3, 2016, at 5:00 pm MDT a large wildfire burning southwest of Fort McMurray resulted in the mandatory evacuation of 12 communities in the city’s area. Later that evening, all of Fort McMurray was placed under a mandatory evacuation: 88,000 individuals were forced to flee their homes.
Roughly one fifth of all homes in Fort McMurray were destroyed by the fire.
Among the things people lost in the fire is electronic equipment, and ERA wants to help those individuals and businesses by providing donations of IT equipment. ERA has partnered with the CIO Association of Canada (CIOCAN) to collect equipment, and will help as many affected individuals as possible.
Until September 27th, ERA will refurbish appropriate equipment received utilizing the form below and provide it to impacted Fort McMurray residents and businesses. Fort McMurray citizens who have requested equipment through ERA’s Give Back to Fort Mac initiative will be given priority for equipment donations within the program.
ERA will accept nearly all types of IT equipment, in any condition, and will recycle non-reusable equipment as necessary and appropriate (a full list is available here). Reusable equipment will be tested, wiped and refurbished. Donors will be provided with a collection certificate, a donation certificate and certification of data destruction at no cost. Pickup services are available in most major Canadian cities and surrounding areas.
All donation applicants will be verified prior to providing equipment. The form below is for businesses and individuals who have gently used equipment to donate. To view the Give Back to Fort Mac computer donation request form, or to apply, please click here.
Please consider donating your gently used equipment for this initiative. If you have questions or comments about the program, please contact us.
Following the pick-up or drop-off of equipment at one of ERA’s depots, liability and ownership of equipment is transferred to ERA. Give Back to Fort Mac donation requests will be filled as ERA receives equipment from the public and will remain a priority until September 27th 2016. Equipment acquired through the Donate to Give Back to Fort Mac initiative not required by Give Back to Fort Mac donation applicants will be processed accordingly (reused or recycled) in support of ERA’s numerous programs. All equipment acquired by ERA through any of our inbound channels will undergo professional data removal.
