1000 Laptops, 1000 Opportunities: Help Canadian Students Access Technology

By electronic recycling association June 3, 2026

As another school year comes to an end, many students across Canada are looking forward to summer break. However, for thousands of students and families, the challenge of accessing reliable technology will continue into the next school year.

To help address this need, the Electronic Recycling Association (ERA) is launching 1000 Devices, 1000 Opportunities, a national campaign aimed at collecting and donating 1,000 laptops and computers before students return to school in September.

Technology has become an essential part of education. From completing homework and accessing online resources to applying for jobs and developing digital skills, students need reliable devices to succeed. Unfortunately, many schools, newcomer organizations, Indigenous communities, youth programs, and nonprofit organizations continue to face technology shortages.

At the same time, businesses across Canada are upgrading their IT equipment and retiring laptops and computers that still have years of useful life remaining. Through ERA’s secure refurbishment program, these devices can be transformed into opportunities for students and families who need them most.

Every donated device undergoes secure data destruction and professional refurbishment before being redistributed to charities, schools, and community organizations across Canada.

By participating in the campaign, organizations can:

  • Support students and education initiatives
  • Reduce electronic waste
  • Extend the life of valuable technology
  • Strengthen ESG and corporate social responsibility efforts
  • Create meaningful community impact

Our goal is simple: collect and donate 1,000 devices before the start of the new school year.

Whether your organization can donate 10 devices or 100, every contribution helps a student access the technology they need to learn, grow, and succeed.
