Fraud and identity theft continue to rise as cybercrime becomes more sophisticated, impacting both individuals and businesses across Canada. March is Fraud Prevention Month, a national initiative focused on helping Canadians recognize, prevent, and report fraud.
To support this important awareness campaign, the Electronic Recycling Association (ERA) is proud to participate in a free community Fraud Prevention and Data Security Event in Calgary, alongside law enforcement agencies and consumer protection organizations. Residents and local businesses are invited to attend and learn how to better protect their personal and financial information in today’s digital world.

How ERA Supports Fraud Prevention
As a Canadian non-profit focused on secure electronics recycling and data destruction, ERA plays an important role in protecting Canadians from identity theft and data breaches. Old laptops, computers, phones, and hard drives often still contain sensitive information. Simply deleting files is not enough.
At the event, ERA’s team will share best practices for secure data wiping, responsible electronics disposal, and how proper recycling helps reduce the risk of fraud while keeping harmful e-waste out of landfills. All suitable electronics collected through ERA programs are securely wiped, refurbished when possible, and donated to local charities—supporting both privacy protection and community impact.
