By electronic recycling association March 9, 2026

As part of the Fraud Prevention and Data Security Event in Calgary, the Electronic Recycling Association (ERA) hosted a special giveaway for attendees to encourage community engagement and raise awareness about secure electronics recycling and data protection.

Community Engagement Through the ERA Giveaway

Visitors who stopped by the ERA booth at YMCA Shawnessy were invited to participate in a draw to win an iPad. The giveaway attracted strong interest from attendees and created a welcoming and interactive opportunity for visitors to learn more about how to protect personal data stored on electronic devices.

The draw was open to all event participants, allowing ERA to connect directly with Calgary residents while highlighting the importance of cybersecurity awareness and responsible electronics recycling.

Educating the Public About Data Security

Throughout the event, ERA representatives spoke with community members about the importance of secure electronics recycling, responsible disposal of retired devices, and professional data destruction.

Many people are unaware that computers, laptops, smartphones, and hard drives can still contain sensitive personal or business information, even after files have been deleted. Improper disposal of electronics can create significant cybersecurity risks, including identity theft and data breaches.

By educating the public about IT asset disposition (ITAD) and secure data destruction, ERA helps individuals and organizations ensure their information is protected before electronic devices are recycled or reused.

Congratulations to the iPad Winner

ERA is pleased to congratulate the winner of the iPad, who received the prize during the event. The organization sincerely thanks everyone who participated in the giveaway and visited the ERA booth to learn more about protecting personal information and safely recycling electronics.

The giveaway added an engaging and interactive element to the event while reinforcing the importance of fraud prevention and digital safety.

ERA’s Mission: Secure Electronics Recycling and Community Support

The Electronic Recycling Association (ERA) is a Canadian non-profit organization dedicated to reducing electronic waste while supporting communities across Canada.

Through secure electronics recycling, certified data destruction, and device refurbishment programs, ERA helps businesses and individuals dispose of retired IT equipment safely and responsibly.

Whenever possible, donated electronics are professionally refurbished and redistributed to charities, schools, non-profit organizations, and families in need, helping bridge the digital divide in Canada while ensuring all sensitive data is securely removed from devices.

By combining environmental sustainability with secure data protection, ERA continues to help Canadians recycle electronics responsibly while protecting their personal and business information.
