Protect Yourself from Scams and Recycle Electronics Securely

March is recognized across Canada as Fraud Prevention Month, a time dedicated to raising awareness about common scams and helping individuals learn how to protect themselves and their loved ones. As part of this important initiative, the Electronic Recycling Association (ERA) will be participating in a Fraud Prevention Month event in Red Deer County on March 12, 2026.

This community event will take place at The Hamlets at Red Deer – 338 Liberty Ave, Red Deer County, AB starting at 10:00 a.m. Residents are invited to attend and learn more about the latest fraud trends, how scammers operate, and practical steps they can take to stay safe.

Fraud continues to evolve, especially through online scams, identity theft, and phishing attacks. Events like this help educate the community about recognizing warning signs and protecting personal information. Attendees will also have the opportunity to hear from guest speakers, connect with community resources, and enjoy goodies and giveaways throughout the event.

The Electronic Recycling Association (ERA) will be on site to share information about the importance of secure electronics recycling and data destruction. Many people don’t realize that old electronics such as laptops, phones, and computers may still contain personal or sensitive information. If these devices are not properly wiped, they could potentially expose individuals to privacy risks.

ERA helps prevent this by securely wiping all data from donated electronics according to industry standards. Devices that can be refurbished are then donated to charities, schools, and nonprofit organizations, helping communities while also keeping electronics out of landfills.

By combining fraud awareness with responsible electronics recycling, events like this empower individuals to protect their personal information while making a positive environmental impact.

If you are in the Red Deer area, join the community on March 12, 2026 and learn how to stay informed, stay safe, and support responsible recycling.
