Refurbished Laptop Donation Supports Centre for Newcomers

By electronic recycling association April 8, 2026

The Electronic Recycling Association continues to support community organizations by providing refurbished technology to those who need it most. Through a recent initiative, two laptops were donated to the Centre for Newcomers to help improve access to digital resources for individuals settling in Canada.

Technology plays an important role in helping newcomers access employment opportunities, educational programs, and essential services. Reliable computers allow participants to complete online applications, attend training sessions, and communicate with community support networks.

Expanding Access to Digital Resources

The donated laptops will assist clients of the Centre for Newcomers by providing tools to support:

• Job searches and online applications
• Resume and cover letter preparation
• Participation in virtual training and language programs
• Access to settlement resources and community services
• Development of digital literacy skills

Access to technology helps individuals build independence while adapting to new environments and opportunities.

Supporting Community Integration

Organizations such as the Centre for Newcomers provide valuable settlement services, employment assistance, and community programming. Access to reliable technology strengthens their ability to support clients and deliver services effectively. Donations of refurbished equipment allow organizations to expand their reach without increasing operational costs.

Extending the Life of Technology

ERA’s refurbishment and donation program focuses on giving functional electronics a second life. Devices are securely wiped, tested, and prepared for reuse before being distributed to charities and non-profit organizations. Equipment that cannot be reused is responsibly recycled according to environmental standards.

This approach helps reduce electronic waste while supporting organizations that provide essential community services.

Bridging the Digital Access Gap

Limited access to technology can create barriers for newcomers and underserved communities. By redistributing refurbished equipment, ERA helps close the digital gap and promote equal access to education and employment opportunities. Each donation contributes to both environmental sustainability and community impact.

Support Community Technology Donations

Businesses and organizations with surplus or gently used electronics are encouraged to donate equipment. Items such as laptops, desktops, monitors, and IT accessories can be refurbished and redistributed to organizations supporting newcomers and other community groups.
