Electronic Recycling Association and Genetec Donate 34 Laptops to Beurling Academy in Montreal
The Electronic Recycling Association (ERA), in partnership with Genetec, is proud to donate 34 professionally refurbished laptops to Beurling Academy, a community high school in Montreal. Thanks to generous corporate partners like Genetec, ERA continues to expand its impact by supporting more schools, charities, and non-profit organizations across Canada.
Beurling Academy serves a predominantly low-income and at-risk student population. As a “Google Classroom” school, each classroom requires a full set of Chromebooks or laptops to facilitate digital learning. Unfortunately, years of underfunding have left the school with an insufficient number of functioning devices. Many existing laptops are missing keys or are so damaged that students rely on laminated keyboard illustrations just to complete basic tasks.
Due to financial limitations—including waived student fees—and a lack of access to repairs or replacements, the digital divide at Beurling Academy has grown wider. Students are often unable to fully participate in class or utilize the online educational tools available to their peers in better-resourced schools.
This donation will help Beurling Academy restore equitable access to technology, allowing students to engage more fully in their education and thrive in a digital-first learning environment.
Genetec, a global leader in unified security solutions, has demonstrated its strong commitment to community engagement through its ongoing partnership with ERA. By donating surplus technology and supporting reuse initiatives, Genetec plays a crucial role in bridging the digital divide and reducing electronic waste. Their support directly enables ERA to provide meaningful access to technology for underserved communities across Canada.
At the Electronic Recycling Association, our mission is to reduce unnecessary e-waste while providing access to technology for those who need it most. Every device we receive is securely data-wiped, refurbished, and distributed to charities, schools, and nonprofit organizations nationwide. Currently, ERA has over 500 active charity requests waiting to be filled.
We urgently need your help. If your organization has surplus, outdated, or unused electronics, please consider donating. Your retired technology could be the key to empowering a student, supporting a newcomer, or helping someone re-enter the workforce.
