The Electronic Recycling Association (ERA) donated 5 laptops to Canadian Women for Women in Afghanistan (CW4WAfghan). Dedicated to turning the Right to Learn into a reality for Afghan women and girls, CW4WAfghan has been tirelessly championing gender-equitable education and advocating for improved human rights conditions in Afghanistan for the past 25 years.
The primary focus of CW4WAfghan is to ensure that women and girls, who have been cut off from traditional education in Afghanistan, can still access high-quality, inclusive, and equitable learning opportunities. Leveraging the power of technology, the organization aims to bridge the educational gap and empower Afghan women and girls with the tools needed for a brighter future.
One of their significant initiatives is the Darakht-e Danesh Classroom (DD Classroom), an online secondary school currently catering to grades 7 and 8 students. The expansion plan includes reaching up to grade 12 in the next few years. The term “Darakht-e Danesh” translates to “knowledge tree” in Dari, one of Afghanistan’s official languages.
The DD Classroom operates through live online classes, taught by qualified educators, most of whom are Afghan nationals. Notably, five of these educators, including the school principal, have recently resettled in Canada. To ensure the uninterrupted provision of quality education for their students, CW4WAfghan requested five laptops for these dedicated teachers based in Canada.
This donation by ERA not only makes a significant impact on the lives of these educators but also ripples through the lives of hundreds of children benefiting from the CW4WAfghan program. It highlights the importance of collaborative efforts and the role of technology in breaking down barriers to education for Afghan women and girls, paving the way for a brighter and more empowered future.
