Calgary Electronic Recycling Efforts Advance Digital Equity for Immigrant Women

By electronic recycling association January 16, 2026

The Electronic Recycling Association (ERA) is strengthening digital equity in Calgary, Alberta, through the donation of 11 laptops to the Canadian Immigrant Women’s Association (CIWA). This initiative reflects ERA’s ongoing commitment to responsible electronics reuse, environmental sustainability, and meaningful community impact across Canada.

Access to reliable technology is a critical enabler of education, employment, and successful settlement for immigrant and refugee women. The donated laptops will support CIWA participants in pursuing online job opportunities, developing resumes, completing skills and language training, and accessing essential settlement and government services. By improving access to digital tools, ERA helps reduce barriers to economic participation and social inclusion.

All donated devices have undergone ERA’s certified refurbishment and secure data destruction process in accordance with industry best practices. Each laptop is professionally wiped, tested, and prepared for reuse, ensuring data security, privacy protection, and environmental responsibility.

CIWA is a leading organization dedicated to empowering immigrant women and their families through employment services, counselling, language programs, and community-based support. This technology donation enhances CIWA’s capacity to deliver its programs effectively and extend its reach to more women in need.

This partnership underscores the powerful intersection of environmental stewardship and social impact. By extending the lifecycle of electronics, ERA reduces e-waste while transforming surplus technology into valuable resources for nonprofit organizations.

Individuals and organizations with unused electronics can support digital inclusion by arranging a free pickup through ERA’s national program.
