Celebrating GivingTuesday: Supporting Communities Through Responsible Electronics Reuse

By electronic recycling association December 1, 2025

Today marks GivingTuesday, a global observance dedicated to collective goodwill, sustainable giving, and strengthening community impact. The Electronic Recycling Association (ERA) is proud to participate in this important day by encouraging Canadians and Canadian organizations to give back in a meaningful, environmentally conscious way—through the donation of unwanted electronic devices.

Advancing Digital Access Through Responsible Reuse

Across Canada, many nonprofits, community groups, and vulnerable individuals rely on access to functional technology to support education, employment, communication, and day-to-day connection. At the same time, countless laptops, desktops, tablets, and smartphones remain unused in homes and workplaces.

By donating devices to ERA, you help bridge this gap. Each item received is assessed, securely data-wiped, refurbished when possible, and redistributed to a charity, school, or community program on our national waitlist. When reuse is not feasible, devices are recycled in accordance with industry standards to prevent e-waste from entering landfills.

Why Giving Technology Matters

Technology continues to play a central role in enabling opportunity. Donations made today have the potential to:

  • Support students with limited access to learning devices
  • Equip job seekers with essential digital tools
  • Enable seniors to stay socially connected
  • Strengthen newcomer and refugee support programs
  • Enhance the capacity of nonprofits serving vulnerable populations

A single refurbished device can create long-term impact for an individual or an entire program.

How to Contribute on Giving Tuesday

1. Donate Unused Electronics

Individuals and organizations are invited to drop off devices at any ERA depot or schedule a pickup. Business donors may qualify for complimentary pickup services. All equipment undergoes certified data-erasure processes prior to reuse.

2. Engage Your Organization

Workplaces can participate by coordinating a technology collection initiative. ERA can provide informational materials, logistical support, and documentation outlining the environmental and social impact of your contribution.

3. Promote Responsible Giving

Help elevate the importance of sustainable and socially responsible technology donation by sharing ERA’s mission within your networks.

A Continued Commitment to Community and Sustainability

With more than 400 organizations currently awaiting refurbished devices, contributions made today will directly support programs across Canada. ERA remains committed to reducing e-waste, advancing digital inclusion, and ensuring that technology continues to serve as a tool for empowerment rather than waste.

As we recognize GivingTuesday, we invite you to join us in creating a tangible impact—one device at a time.
