On May 21, 2026, the Electronic Recycling Association (ERA) hosted a Free Electronics Collection Event at Sunnyside Mall in Bedford, Nova Scotia, bringing together local residents and businesses with a shared goal: keeping unwanted electronics out of landfills and giving them a responsible end-of-life solution.
The event was a great success, with community members dropping off a wide range of electronic devices, including printers, networking equipment, cables, phones, computer accessories, and other IT assets. By the end of the collection period, a total of 236 pounds of electronics had been diverted from landfill and entered the responsible recycling and refurbishment stream.
Events like this play an important role in reducing electronic waste, one of the fastest-growing waste streams in the world. Many devices contain valuable materials that can be recovered and reused, while others contain components that should never end up in municipal landfills. Through responsible collection and processing, these materials can be managed in an environmentally sound way, helping to conserve resources and reduce environmental impact.
The Sunnyside Mall event also demonstrated the power of community participation. Residents took the time to gather unused electronics from their homes and offices, contributing to a cleaner and more sustainable future. Every printer, cable, router, and device collected represents a positive step toward reducing waste and promoting environmental responsibility.
