The Electronic Recycling Association is proud to celebrate a successful partnership with Discovery Centre during Enviro Quest 2026, where community members came together for an engaging and impactful electronics recycling event in Halifax.
Not only did the event highlight the importance of responsible electronics recycling, but it also showcased secure data destruction and environmental education. In addition, visitors had a hands-on opportunity to participate and learn more about proper e-waste management.
480 lbs of Electronics Collected in Halifax
Thanks to strong community participation, a total of 480 lbs of electronics was collected during the event for responsible recycling and reuse.
As a result, these collected items will now be directed into secure processing streams where devices may be refurbished for donation, reused when possible, or responsibly recycled.

Live Hard Drive Shredding Demonstration
One of the most popular features of the event was ERA’s live hard drive shredding machine demonstration.
During the event, ERA’s team proudly showed attendees how hard drives, storage devices, and memory media can be securely destroyed to protect sensitive personal and business information.
Visitors were highly engaged, curious, and excited to learn more. Many participants:
- Watched live shredding demonstrations
- Asked questions about data security
- Brought hard drives and storage media for destruction
- Tried the process themselves under supervision
- Learned how to safely dispose of electronic devices
Because of this interactive experience, attendees gained a better understanding of the importance of secure data destruction in today’s digital world.
Supporting Sustainability Through Community Action
In addition to secure data services, the event also helped educate visitors about the environmental impact of e-waste and the importance of keeping electronics out of landfill.
Programs like this help communities:
- Reduce electronic waste
- Promote responsible recycling habits
- Support reuse-first solutions
- Protect private data
- Strengthen environmental awareness
Furthermore, events like Enviro Quest 2026 show how local action can create meaningful environmental change.
