ERA Donates Refurbished Laptop to Empower Refugees through Mount Royal University’s StartWork Program

At the Electronic Recycling Association (ERA), we’re committed to transforming unwanted electronics into tools for change. For over 20 years, ERA has led the way in reducing e-waste across Canada while supporting digital equity through the donation of refurbished technology to charities, schools, nonprofits, and individuals in need.

Our latest contribution supports a life-changing initiative in Calgary. We proudly donated a refurbished laptop to Mount Royal University’s StartWork program, which provides meaningful employment training and experience to refugees as an alternative to Alberta Income Support. Operated through the Institute for Community Prosperity, the StartWork program helps newcomers gain the skills and opportunities needed to build sustainable livelihoods in Canada.

Electronic Recycling with a Purpose

ERA’s mission is built on a circular model of reuse and donation, ensuring technology doesn’t end up in landfills but instead serves those who need it most.

Here’s how we do it:

  • Collect unwanted electronics from individuals and businesses
  • Refurbish usable devices to industry standards
  • Donate to verified charities, nonprofits, and individuals in need
  • Recycle non-functional items responsibly

From supporting youth and seniors to empowering Indigenous communities and refugees, our donations are making a national impact.
