The Electronic Recycling Association (ERA) is proud to support Newtonbrook Secondary School in North York, Ontario, with the donation of 10 desktop computers complete with peripherals.
With the Toronto District School Board (TDSB) planning to upgrade to Windows 11 in the fall of 2025, many schools have received notice that their current computers will soon become unserviceable. Unfortunately, no additional funding has been allocated by the board to replace these devices.
A computer science teacher at Newtonbrook explained that relying solely on Chromebooks makes it difficult to teach students industry-standard digital tools and coding environments. The ERA’s donation will allow students in Grades 10–12 to continue exploring computer science, design, and information technology courses with proper equipment.
The school plans to use these computers not only for the computer science program but also for yearbook, design, and IT courses, ensuring that more students benefit from enhanced access to technology. The donation also provides a critical backup plan should the school’s existing computers become unusable after the system update this fall.
This initiative reflects ERA’s ongoing commitment to reducing e-waste, bridging the digital divide, and ensuring that schools and communities have access to the technology they need to thrive.
If your company would like to donate decommissioned or surplus devices, please contact the Electronic Recycling Association (ERA) at 1-877-9EWASTE (1-877-939-2783) or visit www.era.ca.
Together, we can give technology a second life and make a difference in our communities.
