The Electronic Recycling Association (ERA) recently donated six refurbished laptops to the Inuit Broadcasting Corporation (IBC) in Ottawa, Ontario, supporting the launch of Tigulavut, an intensive television and media production training program beginning in summer 2026.
As a national non-profit organization, ERA specializes in secure electronic recycling, data destruction, and the refurbishment of donated IT equipment. Through its reuse-first model, ERA ensures that retired corporate electronics are securely wiped, professionally refurbished, and redistributed to charities and community organizations across Canada—keeping devices out of landfills while maximizing social impact.
IBC is an Inuit-led, non-profit media organization dedicated to producing and supporting Inuit-created content for broadcast and digital platforms. For over 40 years, IBC has played a vital role in ensuring Inuit voices, languages, and perspectives are accurately represented in Canada’s media landscape. Their work empowers Inuit as creators, producers, and decision-makers while preserving cultural identity through storytelling.
The Tigulavut program focuses on hands-on training in video editing, media production, and the use of professional-grade software. Access to reliable technology is essential for participants to meet industry standards and fully engage in the program. ERA’s donation helps remove these barriers by providing high-quality laptops that support both learning and content creation.
All devices donated through ERA undergo secure data wiping in accordance with industry-leading standards, giving corporate donors confidence that their information is fully protected while contributing to meaningful community initiatives.
A key feature of the program is that participants will retain their devices after completion, enabling continued creative work, career development, and long-term economic opportunities within Indigenous communities.
Through initiatives like this, ERA continues to advance digital equity, support workforce development, and promote environmental sustainability through responsible electronic recycling and technology reuse in Ottawa and across Canada.
