Empowering Women Through Electronic Recycling

By electronic recycling association June 18, 2025

The Electronic Recycling Association (ERA) is proud to support Street Sisters Society, a Calgary-based, female-led nonprofit dedicated to assisting women experiencing homelessness. As part of our ongoing mission to bridge the digital divide and promote sustainability, ERA recently donated a professionally refurbished laptop to help strengthen their outreach and internal operations.

Technology Supporting Grassroots Outreach

Street Sisters Society plays a critical role in Calgary, providing essential supplies and printed resources to women living on the streets. With more than 50 volunteers serving over 5,000 individuals annually, the organization has relied heavily on paper-based materials—producing and distributing nine different brochures highlighting vital shelter and support services.

However, the rising cost of printing and limited digital infrastructure have created barriers to growth. This refurbished laptop will empower Street Sisters to:

  • Streamline administrative and volunteer coordination
  • Digitally update and produce outreach materials
  • Improve efficiency in managing resources and communication

Reducing E-Waste, Supporting Women in Need

At ERA, we believe in the power of repurposed technology. Every device donated is professionally refurbished and undergoes ISO-certified data destruction to ensure privacy and full functionality. These devices are then redistributed to nonprofits, schools, and charities across Canada.

By donating electronics, individuals and businesses not only reduce e-waste but also provide life-changing access to technology for communities that need it most.

“Technology is more than just hardware—it’s a pathway to opportunity, empowerment, and connection.”

Over 500 Charities Still Waiting

With over 500 charities currently on ERA’s waitlist, the need for gently used laptops, tablets, smartphones, and desktop computers is greater than ever. Your unused tech could help someone access education, find a job, or stay connected with support networks.
