On March 18, 2026, the Port Moody Police Department and the Electronic Recycling Association (ERA) partnered to host a free Fraud Prevention Event focused on secure data destruction and electronic recycling.
Despite the poor weather, the event was a great success. Together, we collected and diverted 2,070.2 lbs of electronics from landfills and securely shredded 163 hard drives.
Collected items included 25 PCs, 5 LCD monitors, 113 laptops, 5 all-in-one computers, 4 servers, 5 printers, 3 switches, 95 cell phones, 38 tablets, and 163 hard drives. The event also brought in a variety of additional electronics and accessories, including gaming consoles, Apple TVs, iPods, cameras, keyboards, and more.
Events like this play an important role in both fraud prevention and environmental sustainability. When electronics are recycled through ERA, all personal and corporate data is securely wiped according to industry standards. Devices that cannot be refurbished are responsibly recycled, while reusable equipment is restored and donated to charities, schools, and nonprofits in need.

Community members also had the opportunity to learn more about protecting themselves from identity theft and fraud, which remains an increasingly important issue as digital scams continue to rise.
The strong turnout demonstrated how local partnerships and community engagement can create meaningful environmental and social impact.
ERA would like to extend a sincere thank you to the Port Moody Police Department for partnering with us once again to host another successful event. Their continued support helps protect communities, promote responsible recycling, and ensure technology reaches those who need it most.
Together, we can keep electronics out of landfills while supporting safer, more sustainable communities.
