ERA Donates Laptop to the Bulkley Valley Tool Library Society to Support Community Access to Tools

By electronic recycling association November 18, 2025

The Electronic Recycling Association (ERA) is proud to donate a refurbished laptop to the Bulkley Valley Tool Library Society in Smithers, BC. This dedicated not-for-profit organization provides the community with affordable access to a wide range of tools—from saws and sanders to kitchen dehydrators—empowering residents to complete projects, learn new skills, and reduce financial barriers.

Supporting a Community Built on Sharing and Sustainability

The Bulkley Valley Tool Library Society operates on a simple but powerful idea: why buy when you can borrow? By offering tools for loan, they help reduce unnecessary purchasing, minimize waste, and keep useful equipment out of the landfill. Many of their tools have been donated or refurbished, further supporting their mission of reuse and sustainability—values the ERA strongly shares.

Why a Laptop Was Needed

Like any lending library, the Tool Library relies on a functional digital system to check tools in and out, manage inventory, and support volunteer operations. Unfortunately, their existing laptop stopped functioning, creating challenges for day-to-day operations.

The ERA’s donation of a refurbished laptop will allow the Tool Library to:

  • Efficiently check tools in and out
  • Manage their growing inventory
  • Support staff and volunteer workflows
  • Continue providing accessible, low-cost tool rentals to the community

A Shared Commitment to Reuse

Both the ERA and the Bulkley Valley Tool Library Society champion the importance of reuse over disposal. Refurbishing and donating technology not only helps extend the life of valuable equipment but also ensures that grassroots organizations have the tools they need to continue serving their communities.

We’re grateful for the opportunity to support the Bulkley Valley Tool Library Society and proud to help power the great work they’re doing in Smithers and the surrounding region.
