ERA Donates Laptops to iSisters to Support Women’s Digital Skills During the Holiday Season

By electronic recycling association December 18, 2025

The Electronic Recycling Association (ERA) is proud to support iSisters Technology Mentoring as part of our national 12 Days of Christmas Tech Donations campaign. This holiday season, ERA donated five refurbished laptops to iSisters, helping expand access to technology for women, girls, and gender-diverse individuals participating in free digital skills training and mentorship programs.

This initiative reflects ERA’s ongoing commitment to secure electronic recycling, technology reuse, and digital inclusion, ensuring retired IT assets are responsibly repurposed to create meaningful social impact across Canada.

Empowering Women Through Access to Technology

Access to reliable technology plays a vital role in today’s digital economy. However, many individuals still face barriers to digital participation.

Founded in 2001, iSisters Technology Mentoring is a registered Canadian charity that works to remove those barriers. The organization provides free digital skills training, mentorship, and technology education to individuals who may otherwise be excluded.

By providing refurbished laptops, ERA enables program participants to fully engage in training, practice their skills at home, and build long-term confidence with technology.

Supporting Digital Inclusion Through Technology Donations

Access to reliable technology is essential in today’s digital economy. iSisters Technology Mentoring, a registered Canadian charity founded in 2001, works to eliminate barriers to digital access by offering no-cost technology training, mentoring, and digital literacy programs to individuals who may otherwise be excluded.

By supplying refurbished laptops, ERA helps ensure participants can fully engage in training programs, continue developing their skills beyond the classroom, and build greater confidence using technology.

Supporting Digital Inclusion Beyond the Classroom

Technology access does not end when a workshop concludes. Instead, continued access allows learners to grow, explore, and apply new skills independently.

Because of this donation, iSisters participants can continue learning beyond scheduled sessions. Moreover, they gain tools that support job readiness, education, and personal development. This access helps create lasting change within communities.

Reducing E-Waste Through Responsible Technology Reuse

Across Canada, many individuals lack access to functional computers. At the same time, businesses retire large volumes of usable IT equipment each year.

Through responsible IT asset disposition (ITAD) and electronics reuse, ERA extends the life of donated technology while keeping electronic waste out of landfills. Rather than recycling first, ERA prioritizes reuse whenever possible.

As a result, this approach helps to:

  • Reduce electronic waste and environmental impact
  • Strengthen community programs with reliable technology
  • Support charities, non-profits, and schools nationwide

Secure Data Destruction with Social Impact

Before redistribution, ERA professionally refurbishes and securely data-wipes all donated electronics. This process follows strict industry standards and ensures complete data protection.

At the same time, refurbished devices receive a second life through charitable use. Consequently, businesses can retire end-of-life IT equipment responsibly while supporting ESG goals, sustainability initiatives, and social good.
