ERA Donates 5 Laptops to WISE Kid-Netic Energy in Manitoba

By electronic recycling association September 16, 2026

The Electronic Recycling Association (ERA) is proud to donate five refurbished laptops to WISE Kid-Netic Energy, a Manitoba-based non-profit organization helping young people explore science, technology, engineering, and mathematics through hands-on STEM education.

Founded in 1990, WISE Kid-Netic Energy is the largest community outreach program offered by the University of Manitoba. The organization provides curriculum-based STEM programming for students from Kindergarten to Grade 12 through school workshops, community programs, clubs, camps, events, and educational resources.

By donating five refurbished laptops, ERA is helping WISE Kid-Netic Energy expand access to reliable technology while giving useful electronics a second life.

Supporting STEM Education and Digital Skills

Technology plays an important role in modern education. Reliable computers can support coding, research, engineering projects, digital design, online learning, communication, and many other educational activities.

WISE Kid-Netic Energy works with youth throughout Manitoba and offers programs designed to build confidence and curiosity in science and technology. Its initiatives include Girls STEM Club, Black Youth in STEM programming, Robot Fight Club, school workshops, community programming, and seasonal camps.

ERA’s laptop donation will help support these educational activities while providing students and program participants with greater access to digital tools.

This partnership also reflects a shared goal between ERA and WISE Kid-Netic Energy: creating more opportunities for young people to learn, develop new skills, and explore technology.

Giving Refurbished Laptops a Second Life

At ERA, reuse comes before recycling.

Businesses, institutions, and individuals across Canada regularly replace laptops, computers, monitors, servers, and other electronics. Many of these devices still have useful life remaining.

ERA collects unwanted electronics and evaluates equipment for reuse whenever possible. Devices suitable for reuse are securely data wiped, tested, refurbished, and prepared for donation to charities, schools, non-profit organizations, care facilities, and other community programs across Canada.

The five laptops donated to WISE Kid-Netic Energy are a great example of how electronics reuse can create both environmental and community benefits.

Instead of allowing functional technology to sit unused or enter the waste stream too early, refurbished electronics can support education, community programs, and organizations that need access to reliable equipment.

When electronics can no longer be reused, ERA ensures they are responsibly processed through appropriate electronics recycling channels.

Technology Reuse Supports the Circular Economy

Extending the useful life of electronics is an important part of the circular economy.

Reuse helps reduce unnecessary electronic waste while maximizing the value of equipment and materials that have already been manufactured. It also gives organizations an opportunity to create additional social impact from technology they no longer need.

Through secure data destruction, refurbishment, technology donations, and responsible electronics recycling, ERA helps businesses and communities across Canada manage unwanted electronics while supporting local organizations.

The donation to WISE Kid-Netic Energy shows how retired technology can become a valuable resource for STEM learning instead of becoming electronic waste.

Donate Electronics or Apply for Technology

ERA works with businesses, government organizations, educational institutions, non-profits, and individuals across Canada to give unwanted electronics a second life.

Organizations with retired laptops, desktops, monitors, tablets, phones, servers, networking equipment, and other electronics can work with ERA to arrange secure reuse and recycling.
