ERA Donates Tech to Ubuntu Neighbourhood Organization

By electronic recycling association May 7, 2024

The Electronic Recycling Association (ERA) recently donated tech to the UBUNTU NEIGHBOURHOOD ORGANIZATION (UNO) in Toronto, Canada. Among the donated items were a laptop, printer, monitor, and projector — invaluable tools that are set to make a profound impact on the Girls in Tech program within the community.

For UNO, these electronic resources are not just pieces of hardware; they represent a lifeline for the empowerment and skill development of Women in technology. Through initiatives like the Girls in Tech program, UNO is striving to create a more inclusive and diverse landscape within the tech industry, starting right within The Esplanade community.

At the heart of UNO’s mission lies a commitment to providing equal opportunities for all, irrespective of race or gender. The need for equipment such as laptops, printers, monitors, and projectors is fundamental to achieving this objective. These tools serve as the backbone of educational and skill-building programs, enabling girls in tech to access the resources they need to thrive in an increasingly digital world.

The impact of initiatives like the Girls in Tech program goes beyond individual empowerment; it has the power to catalyze broader societal change. By nurturing a new generation of women in technology, UNO is not only closing the gender gap but also challenging prevailing norms and stereotypes within the tech industry. Through mentorship, skills development, and community engagement, UNO is laying the groundwork for a more diverse, inclusive, and innovative tech sector.

UNO is a Youth-Led Non-Profit Organization that was created to provide a safe space for at-risk youth to feel welcome and wanted in a city where such spaces are hard to find. This was needed more than ever in our community as we are currently facing rapid gentrification and no place that served as a hub for the long-standing members of lower-income families in the community.
