Community Fraud Prevention Event in Abbotsford Diverts Thousands of Pounds of E-Waste
On March 7, 2026, the Electronic Recycling Association (ERA) partnered with the Abbotsford Police Department to host a community-focused Fraud Prevention and Electronic Recycling Event at Sevenoaks Shopping Centre in Abbotsford, British Columbia. Despite rainy weather throughout the day, community members showed incredible support by coming out to safely recycle their electronics and learn how to better protect their personal information.

Thanks to the strong community participation, the event successfully diverted 2,926.30 pounds of electronic waste from landfills. Proper e-waste recycling is essential for protecting the environment, as many electronic devices contain materials that can be harmful if improperly disposed of. By responsibly recycling electronics, valuable resources can be recovered and reused while reducing environmental impact.
Events like this also play an important role in fraud prevention and data security. When electronics are recycled through ERA, all personal and corporate data is securely wiped according to industry standards. Devices that cannot be safely refurbished are responsibly recycled, while usable equipment is refurbished and donated to charities, schools, and nonprofit organizations that need technology to support their work.
Community members were also able to learn more about protecting themselves from identity theft and fraud—an increasingly important topic as digital scams continue to rise.
The turnout demonstrated how local partnerships and community engagement can create meaningful environmental and social impact.
ERA would like to extend a sincere thank you to the Abbotsford Police Department and Sevenoaks Shopping Centre for partnering with us once again to host another successful event. Their continued support helps make it possible to protect communities, promote responsible recycling, and ensure technology reaches those who need it most.
Together, we can keep electronics out of landfills while supporting safer and more sustainable communities.
