As we enter Earth Month, there’s no better time to reflect on our environmental footprint and take action to protect our planet. This April 27th, 2024, Garden City Shopping Centre, in collaboration with the Electronic Recycling Association (ERA), is inviting you to participate in an Electronics Recycling Drive. It’s a fantastic opportunity to celebrate Earth Day by giving new life to your old electronics, all while contributing to a greener, more sustainable future.
The event will take place from 10 AM to 3 PM at Garden City Shopping Centre, located at 2305 McPhillips Street, Winnipeg, Manitoba, in the Leila side parking lot. This initiative aims to make it easy and convenient for the community to responsibly dispose of their unwanted and unused electronics.
What can you bring?
Virtually any electronic device you no longer need! Here’s a list of accepted items:
- Desktops: Whether you have a PC or MAC, including parts and motherboards, we’ll gladly take them off your hands.
- Notebooks: Don’t let those old laptops collect dust. Bring them in, along with any parts and cables you have lying around.
- Printers: Inkjet or Laserjet, scanners, and fax machines are all welcome.
- Computer Peripherals: Keyboards, mice, and any other accessories that are no longer in use can find a new purpose through recycling.
- Phone Systems: Voicemail systems, parts, and accessories – if they’re no longer serving you, let’s recycle them.
- Software: Operating systems and design software CDs or DVDs can be dropped off as well.
- Racks & Misc: Have old server racks or disk arrays? We’ll ensure they’re properly recycled too.
But the journey doesn’t end there. Once collected, the Electronic Recycling Association will refurbish these items, ensuring they’re in working condition, and donate them back to the community. This means that your old electronics could find new homes and uses, benefiting individuals and organizations in need.
By participating in this Electronics Recycling Drive, you’re not only clearing the clutter from your home, garage, or workplace, but you’re also contributing to environmental conservation efforts. Recycling electronics helps reduce the amount of electronic waste ending up in landfills, preventing hazardous materials from leaching into the soil and waterways. Additionally, by refurbishing and donating electronics back to the community, we’re extending the lifespan of these devices and reducing the need for new manufacturing, thus conserving valuable resources and energy.
Proper recycling and reuse of electronics are crucial in our efforts towards sustainability. Electronics contain valuable materials that can be salvaged and reused, reducing the demand for new resources. Moreover, by donating refurbished electronics, we’re promoting access to technology for individuals and organizations that may not otherwise have the means to acquire them.
Your small action can make a big difference. So mark your calendars for April 27th and join us at Garden City Shopping Centre to make a positive impact on our planet. Together, let’s celebrate Earth Day not just with words, but with meaningful actions that benefit both our communities and the environment.
Let’s turn old electronics into new opportunities. See you there!
