ERA’s Electronics Donation Fuels IncluCity Calgary Usability Testing Society

By electronic recycling association December 13, 2023

The Electronic Recycling Association (ERA) has recently donated electronics to the IncluCity Calgary Usability Testing Society. The ERA’s contribution, comprising 5 desktop computers, 2 laptops, and 2 projectors, is set to transform the capabilities of the society, enabling them to conduct essential usability testing of applications, websites, and services.

The IncluCity Calgary Usability Testing Society, recognizing the critical role of testing in creating inclusive digital solutions, had identified a challenge—limited access to the necessary hardware for comprehensive usability testing. Many individuals, particularly those from under-represented groups, often lack the means to participate in these crucial phases of development.

Understanding the societal impact of such limitations, the ERA responded to the society’s request for hardware. This donation goes beyond a mere transaction; it embodies a community coming together to address a common need. The electronics provided by ERA will serve as the tools bridging the gap for individuals who would otherwise face barriers to engaging in usability testing.

The IncluCity Calgary Usability Testing Society’s request was grounded in the belief that everyone should have a voice in the development of digital solutions meant to serve their community. The ERA’s donation is a concrete step toward making this belief a reality. By providing access to essential hardware, the ERA is ensuring that under-represented individuals are not excluded from shaping the technologies that impact their lives.

This donation highlights the ERA’s commitment to community welfare and aligns with their mission of responsible electronic recycling. Instead of these electronics languishing in disuse, they are now being repurposed to empower a society striving for inclusivity in the digital realm.

The ERA is focused on reducing unnecessary waste and/or environmental impact through effective management of retiring electronic and IT equipment.  As a non-profit organization with deep community roots, it is our “reuse” focus and donation activities that set us apart from others in this sector. We are an ISO 9001:2015, ISO 14001:2015, and ISO 45001:2018 Certified Company that offers pickup services, comprehensive data security measures and subsequent reporting. Individuals and organizations alike move through technology hardware for a number of different reasons, and often there is ongoing productive use.

The ERA believes that “reuse” where ever possible is the most ecological approach to this growing stream, and an excellent way to compel real community goodwill at the same time. The Electronic Recycling Association has a clear mission of reducing electronic waste through computer recycling, laptop recycling and computer donation services. With depots throughout Vancouver, Calgary, Edmonton and all of Canada. ERA provides a great way to recycle electronic equipment safely and securely.
