ESG in Action: How ERA and Genetec Donate 15 Laptops to Cedar Street School Graduates in Quebec

By electronic recycling association November 13, 2025

The Electronic Recycling Association (ERA) continues to advance its national mandate of reducing electronic waste, strengthening digital inclusion, and supporting long-term sustainability. As part of this effort, ERA—together with Genetec, a global leader in unified physical security solutions—has donated 15 laptops to the graduating class of Cedar Street School in Beloeil, Quebec.

The donated laptops will go directly to 15 students transitioning from elementary to junior high. Cedar Street School’s parent committee recognized a critical need: ensuring each child has reliable access to technology for coursework, research, and personal development.

For many families, purchasing a laptop is financially out of reach. ERA and Genetec’s contribution ensures these students have the digital tools required to thrive academically and grow as confident, tech-capable learners.

Extending Technology Lifecycles

Forward-thinking IT leaders know that sustainable asset management is not only about responsible disposal—it’s about maximizing the value of every device.

Through ERA’s secure refurbishment process, corporate donors can:

  • Reduce e-waste by extending the lifecycle of retired IT assets
  • Optimize IT refresh cycles while maintaining environmental stewardship
  • Ensure complete data security, backed by industry-standard data wiping and privacy protocols
  • Support community organizations and reduce the digital divide in Canada

ERA’s work reinforces what CIOs already understand: responsible technology management strengthens ESG performance, reduces operational waste, and builds measurable community impact.

Genetec’s Commitment to CSR and Sustainability

ERA extends sincere gratitude to Genetec for championing corporate social responsibility and contributing meaningful resources to local communities. By donating decommissioned but functional devices, Genetec helps ensure technology remains accessible to those who need it most.

Their support highlights how IT leaders can leverage sustainable electronics reuse to make a tangible difference across Canada.

Your Organization Can Create Impact Too

With over 500 charities currently on ERA’s waitlist, the demand for technology continues to grow. CIOs and IT asset managers have a unique opportunity to drive real change by donating surplus or end-of-life equipment—including laptops, desktops, tablets, and projectors.

Your retired technology can empower students, nonprofits, seniors, newcomers, and vulnerable communities from coast to coast.
