From E-Waste to New Beginnings

By electronic recycling association January 5, 2026

For many newcomers arriving in Canada, access to basic technology can be the difference between feeling stuck and moving forward. The Electronic Recycling Association (ERA) is proud to support that journey by donating five refurbished laptops to Global Gathering Place in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan.

Global Gathering Place serves immigrants and refugees who are building new lives in Canada—often starting with very limited resources. For many of their clients, owning a computer simply isn’t financially possible, yet it is essential for navigating daily life.

These laptops will provide immediate, practical support for participants as they work toward independence. With reliable access to technology, clients can:

  • Apply for jobs and prepare résumés
  • Search for safe and affordable housing
  • Access online services and settlement resources
  • Communicate with employers, educators, and service agencies
  • Strengthen their confidence in using digital tools

To ensure long-term success, Global Gathering Place connects this donation with education. Clients must complete the organization’s computer basics course before receiving a laptop, giving them the skills and confidence to make full use of the technology.

More Than a Donation — A Step Forward

At ERA, we believe technology should never be wasted — and it should never sit unused while communities go without. By refurbishing donated electronics and redistributing them to organizations like Global Gathering Place, ERA keeps valuable equipment out of landfills while opening doors for people who need opportunity most.

Each donated device carries the potential to change a life, support a family, and strengthen a community.

How You Can Help

Organizations across Canada are waiting for access to refurbished technology. Businesses and individuals can be part of the solution by donating surplus electronics through ERA’s secure and certified reuse and recycling program.
