How Electronic Recycling in Alberta Supports Mental Health Services in Fort McMurray

By electronic recycling association November 8, 2025

The Electronic Recycling Association (ERA) recently donated 10 high-end laptops to the Legacy Counselling Centre in Fort McMurray, Alberta.

The Legacy Counselling Centre is a non-profit organization dedicated to providing accessible and affordable counselling services to residents of Fort McMurray and surrounding areas. In the past year alone, 70% of their services were offered free of charge, ensuring that individuals and families in need can receive professional mental health support regardless of financial barriers.

Because of their strong focus on affordability, the centre relies heavily on donations, partnerships, and grants to sustain its operations. This leaves limited resources for technology upgrades. Their counsellors also provide virtual counselling services, but their existing computers—many over 10 years old—were struggling to keep up with modern software and secure data-management systems.

The ERA’s donation of refurbished laptops will significantly enhance their ability to manage client information securely, support remote counselling sessions, and ensure smooth day-to-day operations.

Empowering Communities Through Technology Reuse

By giving new life to gently used electronics, ERA continues to help organizations like the Legacy Counselling Centre strengthen their community impact while reducing electronic waste. Every donated device supports digital inclusion and environmental sustainability.
