New Westminster Police Department & ERA Host Free Electronics Recycling and Data Destruction Event in New Westminster, BC

The New Westminster Police Department and the Electronic Recycling Association (ERA) are partnering for Fraud Prevention Month to host a free electronics recycling and secure data destruction event in New Westminster, British Columbia. This community initiative helps residents safely dispose of unwanted electronics while protecting personal information from fraud and identity theft.

Date: March 28, 2026
Time: 12:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m.
Location: New Westminster City Hall Parking Lot, 511 Royal Ave, New Westminster, BC V3L 1H9

ERA will be onsite to provide secure on-site data destruction and collect unwanted electronics for responsible reuse and recycling. Cell phones are accepted with batteries removed. Officers from the New Westminster Police Department and ERA team members will also be available to share practical guidance on data safety, identity theft prevention, and fraud awareness.

What Happens to Your Electronics

All eligible items collected at this event will be securely wiped, refurbished, and donated to local charities and community organizations in the Greater Vancouver area whenever possible. Devices that cannot be reused will be responsibly recycled through ERA’s approved downstream recycling partners. ERA follows a reuse-before-recycle model, ensuring technology is given a meaningful second life before being processed for material recovery.

  • Consumer electronics (gaming consoles, iPods/MP3 players, stereo equipment)
  • Desktop computers and monitors (PC & Mac), parts and motherboards
  • Handheld devices (smartphones, cell phones, tablets)
  • Laptops and accessories (PC & Mac, docking stations, cables)
  • Printers and office equipment (inkjet, laser, plotters, copiers, scanners, fax machines)
  • Peripherals (keyboards, mice, CD/DVD drives, cards, accessories)
  • Phone systems
  • Servers and racks (rackmount and standalone units)
  • Networking equipment (Cisco switches, routers)
  • Software media
