The Electronic Recycling Association was happy to donate 10 iPads to the Soupe et compagnie des Pays-d’en-Haut in Montreal to assist their low-income clients with the tech they need to join them on zoom for activities. They are a community organization that works with vulnerable people, seniors in particular, and they want to be able to offer online activities since they cannot welcome them in their office because of the pandemic.

Soupe et compagnie des Pays-d’en-Haut has been planning and organizing food support in the MRC des Pays-d’en-Haut for people in need since 1994.

Beyond the soup kitchen concept, they also want to reach isolated people, including seniors, and anyone trying to break loneliness, with the goal of offering a welcoming place to find a friend, to listen, and for diverse social support.

Volunteers are sensitive to recognizing difficult situations and directing participants to helping resources if they need it. Also, Soupe et compagnie supports civic and social involvement by mobilizing volunteers from its clientele, so that they regain power over their lives.

To achieve its expanded mission, Soupe et compagnie raises funds and other assets through public subscriptions, or in any other way possible, and disposes of them in the best interest of the people who benefit from its services. If you would like to donate to their cause you can check out their website here.

The Electronic Recycling Association (ERA) is a non-profit organization founded in 2004 to address the growing problem of e-waste and the increasing ‘digital divide’. For over fifteen years, ERA has offered simple solutions to help individuals and organizations prevent operational equipment from premature destruction. With a focus on recovery, refurbishment and reuse, ERA continuously supplies charitable groups with donated IT equipment while securely managing the retiring IT assets of organizations and individuals across Canada.

We believe that reuse before recycling is critical in managing the waste created by computer hardware, and by offering industry-leading data destruction for all equipment we receive, we have securely repurposed hundreds of tons of equipment. Because not everything ERA receives can be reasonably repurposed, we have partnered with certified recycling organizations to process equipment that has reached the end of its productive life.
