ERA Donates Laptops to Support Online Learning
The Electronic Recycling Association (ERA) is proud to continue supporting Canadian charities with secure, sustainable, and community-focused technology solutions. Most recently, ERA donated three refurbished laptops to United for Literacy, a Toronto-based charity dedicated to improving literacy skills for children, youth, and adults across Canada.
Empowering Learners Through Technology
For many learners, access to a dependable computer can be the difference between attending an online tutoring session and falling behind. The laptops provided by ERA will allow United for Literacy participants to join virtual literacy programs, work with volunteer tutors, and complete learning modules at home.
United for Literacy supports individuals from diverse backgrounds—including newcomers, low-income families, and adults seeking to strengthen reading, writing, and digital skills. By ensuring learners have the technology they need, ERA helps the organization continue delivering high-impact educational support.
How ERA Makes Donations Possible
As a non-profit organization operating for over 20years, the Electronic Recycling Association has built a unique process that turns unwanted electronics into valuable resources for communities across Canada.
1. Secure Collection and Processing
ERA partners with businesses, individuals, and government agencies to collect used computers and IT equipment. All equipment undergoes strict data security protocols, including:
- Certified data wiping
- Physical shredding of storage devices when required
- Compliance with industry standards and best practices
These measures ensure that every donor’s information remains completely protected.
2. Refurbishment and Reuse First
Whenever possible, ERA prioritizes reuse over recycling. Our technicians test, repair, and refurbish equipment to extend its lifespan. Devices that cannot be reused are broken down and recycled responsibly through certified Canadian recycling partners.
3. Donations to Charities, Schools, and Non-Profits
Refurbished equipment is then donated to charities, community groups, and educational programs that rely on technology to deliver their services. ERA currently supports over 400 organizations on our waitlist—each one working to bridge digital gaps in their communities.
A Shared Commitment to Learning and Sustainability
The collaboration between ERA and United for Literacy reflects a shared belief that learning should be accessible to all. When organizations work together, refurbished technology becomes a powerful tool—enhancing education, improving opportunities, and reducing environmental impact.
