May is Mental Health Awareness Month
The Electronic Recycling Association (ERA) is proud to spotlight how donated technology can support mental health organizations across Canada. This month, we’re prioritizing requests from charities and nonprofits that deliver critical mental health services.
Many mental health organizations rely on functioning electronic devices—laptops, tablets, phones, and computers—to serve individuals in crisis, run programs, and operate effectively. The need is urgent, and that’s where ERA, with your help, can make a powerful impact.
When your organization donates its decommissioned devices to ERA, we securely data-wipe and refurbish them before redistributing them to charities on our waitlist.
These devices directly enable mental health service providers to:
- Conduct outreach, assessments, and case management in the field, improving accessibility for clients in home or community settings.
- Facilitate virtual support groups and recovery sessions for individuals unable to attend in-person meetings.
- Empower clients to access critical online resources—including job boards, housing applications, and educational tools.
- Equip administrative staff with reliable technology, improving secure recordkeeping and operational efficiency.
- Support development teams in securing future funding through online research and grant applications.
- Manage volunteer programs more effectively, allowing organizations to scale their support.
As an added assurance, ERA is proudly certified to the following international standards:
- ISO 9001 – Quality Management
- ISO 14001 – Environmental Management
- ISO 27001 – Information Security Management
- ISO 45001 – Occupational Health and Safety Management
These certifications reflect our commitment to quality, data security, environmental responsibility, and workplace safety throughout every stage of our process—from collection to data wiping to redistribution.
We currently have over 500 charities on our national waitlist—including many focused specifically on mental health support—and we need your help to fulfill their urgent technology needs. If your business has unused or decommissioned laptops, tablets, or smartphones, please consider donating them to ERA.
Some of the organizations waiting for devices include:
- Canadian Mental Health Association
- Community Connections Outpatient Mental Health
- Square 1 Men’s Mental Health Foundation
- Alberta Health Services – Youth Addictions and Mental Health, Forensic Adolescent Program
- Kitsilano Neighbourhood House
- Bissell Centre
- Elements Calgary Mental Health Centre
- Northeast Addiction and Mental Health Centre for Holistic Recovery
By partnering with ERA, your organization not only promotes sustainability through electronic recycling, but also helps break down technological barriers for those in need of mental health services.
