To many, the hospital can be a scary place. Any time spent in a hospital can be daunting and uncomfortable. The downtime between seeing doctors can be left feeling long and endless. Creating programs focused on keeping patients occupied helps make Hospital stays a more comfortable experience. The Edmonton-based non-profit organization, Friends of the University Hospitals, does just that.

They work to provide hospital patients at the University of Alberta Hospital with a caring and comforting experience.  The organization utilizes the arts and social enterprise to enhance wellness, inspiring wholeness, and creating connections through various art mediums. Friends of the University Hospitals’ patient-centered values include artistic practice, innovation, and creativity. Through this, they are able to create a sense of community and kindness to those staying at the University of Alberta Hospital.

Friends of the University Hospitals requested iPads from the ERA so they can continue the growth of the various programs they coordinate and facilitate. We are happy to share that the ERA has provided Friends of the University Hospitals with 1 iPad to help facilitate the work they do in the hospital.

The use of tablets has been on the rise and continues to gain popularity over laptops. Many individuals opt to use a tablet for education and their career because of its extreme portability. At the ERA, we collect all kinds of electronic devices – tablets included.

For over 16 years, ERA’s mission has been to reduce electronic waste and the negative impact it has on our environment. We do this by reusing unwanted electronic devices through recovery, refurbishment, and donation programs. Friends of the University Hospitals is just one of the many care centers the ERA has been able to provide IT devices to. We understand that health care and wellness are important to creating a strong, healthy, and innovative community for the future.

If you have tablets that you are no longer using, consider dropping them off at one of ERA’s 7 Depots nation-wide. With technology updating each year, many people purchase a brand-new device while their old one still has years of usable life still left. Our focus at the ERA is to extend electronic devices’ lifespans in order to donate them to non-profits, charities, schools, care centers, and individuals in need.

When donating tablets and/or iPads, please ensure the devices have been logged out of to ensure that ERA can factory reset tablets/iPads for donation.
