Turning Unused Tech into Opportunity: A National Call to Action

By electronic recycling association April 24, 2025

As digital access becomes increasingly essential to education, employment, and essential services, the technology gap continues to widen for many underserved communities across Canada. Meanwhile, organizations regularly decommission functional devices during IT refresh cycles—devices that, if repurposed, could make a meaningful difference.

The Electronic Recycling Association (ERA) is issuing a national call to action to CIOs, CTOs, and IT leaders: help bridge this digital divide by donating surplus technology. With over 500 charities, schools, and nonprofit organizations currently on ERA’s waitlist, the need for reliable electronic devices has never been more urgent.

By choosing reuse before recycling, organizations not only support community development but also advance key environmental and governance objectives.

“Our mission is to connect organizations with excess technology to those who lack access. Reuse is the most impactful first step—diverting e-waste and delivering opportunity through secure refurbishment,”Bojan Paduh, Founder and President, Electronic Recycling Association
