As part of ongoing Earth Month initiatives across Canada, the Electronic Recycling Association (ERA) proudly partnered with the Halifax Central Library to host a successful Earth Day Electronics Recycling Collection Event in Halifax, Nova Scotia.
Held on April 29, 2026, the event welcomed community members throughout the day, providing residents with a convenient and environmentally responsible way to recycle unwanted electronics while learning more about secure data destruction and sustainable technology reuse.
Supporting a Greener Halifax Through Community Partnership
The collection event took place at the Halifax Central Library and welcomed residents throughout the day. Community members dropped off unwanted and unused electronics for responsible recycling and refurbishment through ERA’s certified programs.
As a result of strong community participation, the event collected a total of 722 lbs of electronics in just a few hours.
Furthermore, the event helped raise awareness about the importance of reducing electronic waste and extending the life of reusable technology.
Educating the Public About Data Security and E-Waste
Alongside electronics collection, ERA staff also spoke with attendees about:
- Responsible electronics recycling
- Secure data destruction
- The environmental impact of e-waste
- Technology reuse and refurbishment
- Supporting charities and non-profits through donated devices
Visitors had the opportunity to ask questions and learn how proper recycling protects both the environment and personal information.
In addition, ERA staff demonstrated how secure hard drive destruction and data sanitization help keep sensitive data safe.
