The Electronic Recycling Association (ERA) is proud to have partnered with the Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu Police Service in Quebec for a successful electronics collection and secure data destruction event held on May 16, 2026.

Community members across the region came together to responsibly recycle unwanted electronics while helping protect sensitive personal information through secure device collection and hard drive destruction. Events like these continue to play an important role in reducing electronic waste, preventing identity theft, and supporting sustainable technology reuse throughout Quebec.

During the collection event, ERA securely collected a wide range of electronic devices, including:

  • 24 hard drives
  • 12 desktop PCs
  • 28 laptops
  • 2 monitors
  • 2 solid-state drives (SSDs)
  • 1 all-in-one computer
  • 11 iPads
  • 24 tablets
  • 76 cell phones
  • Assorted cables, mice, and keyboards

In total, the event successfully diverted approximately 605 pounds of electronics from landfill.

All collected devices will undergo ERA’s secure data wiping or physical destruction processes in accordance with industry standards. Whenever possible, reusable devices will be refurbished and donated to charities, non-profits, and community organizations in need, helping extend the life cycle of technology while reducing environmental impact.

ERA would like to sincerely thank the Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu Police Service and all participating community members in Quebec for helping make this event a success. Through partnerships like these, ERA continues to promote secure electronics recycling, responsible IT asset disposition (ITAD), and the importance of reusing technology before recycling.
