A Community Partnership Supporting a Greener Edmonton

ERA is excited to collaborate with Kirk Centre on an initiative that brings environmental responsibility and community engagement together.

By hosting this electronics recycling event, Kirk Centre is helping create an accessible collection opportunity for Edmonton residents and encouraging responsible disposal of unwanted technology.

Community partnerships play an important role in raising awareness about electronic waste and making sustainable practices easier to adopt.

Through this collaboration, ERA and Kirk Centre hope to inspire more residents and organizations to consider what happens to their electronics after they are no longer needed.

Instead of allowing unused technology to remain in storage or end up in landfills, residents can bring their unwanted devices to a dedicated community collection event.

What Electronics Can You Bring?

Residents are encouraged to collect unwanted or unused electronic equipment from their homes and workplaces.

Common items accepted through ERA’s electronics recycling programs include:

  • Laptops and desktop computers
  • Computer monitors and televisions
  • Cell phones and tablets
  • Printers, scanners, and office electronics
  • Keyboards, mice, cables, and accessories
  • Gaming consoles and other eligible electronic devices

If you are unsure whether a particular item can be accepted, please contact ERA before bringing it to the event. Some equipment may be subject to additional recycling or handling fees.

Giving Electronics a Second Life Through ERA

At the Electronic Recycling Association, responsible electronics recycling begins with evaluating equipment for potential reuse.

Many computers, laptops, and other electronic devices that are no longer needed by their original owners can still provide value to charities, schools, and nonprofit organizations.

ERA works to collect, test, refurbish, and redistribute reusable technology to organizations that need reliable electronic equipment.

Devices that cannot be reused are directed toward responsible recycling processes to help recover valuable materials and reduce electronic waste.

By participating in the Kirk Centre electronics recycling event, Edmonton residents can contribute to this process and help support a more circular approach to technology.

Why Responsible Electronics Recycling Matters

Electronic waste is an ongoing environmental concern, particularly as technology is frequently upgraded and older devices are replaced.

Computers, smartphones, printers, and other electronics contain materials that require appropriate handling when devices reach the end of their useful lives.

Responsible electronics recycling helps:

  • Reduce the amount of electronic waste entering landfills.
  • Recover valuable materials from outdated equipment.
  • Extend the useful life of electronics through refurbishment and reuse.
  • Support charities and nonprofit organizations through technology donation programs.
  • Encourage sustainable habits within local communities.

Community electronics recycling events also make it easier for individuals and organizations to take action without needing to arrange their own collection services.

Celebrating Circular Economy Month in Edmonton

October is Circular Economy Month, an opportunity to recognize the importance of reducing waste, reusing materials, and keeping valuable resources in circulation for longer.

ERA’s partnership with Kirk Centre reflects these principles by encouraging residents to reconsider how they manage unwanted electronics.

A laptop that is no longer needed at home may still be useful to a nonprofit organization. A computer that cannot be repaired may contain materials that can be recovered through responsible recycling.

Each device collected represents an opportunity to reduce unnecessary waste and promote more sustainable use of resources.

Join ERA and Kirk Centre on October 28!

Do you have an old laptop, unused computer, outdated phone, or other electronics taking up space?

Bring your eligible unwanted electronics to Kirk Centre on Wednesday, October 28, 2026, between 9:00 AM and 2:00 PM.

The collection will take place in the parking lot on the south side of the building at 13535 122 Ave NW, Edmonton, Alberta.

ERA would like to thank Kirk Centre and its team for partnering with us to bring this community recycling opportunity to Edmonton.

We look forward to welcoming local residents and businesses and working together to reduce electronic waste.

Recycle responsibly. Give technology a second life. Support a greener Edmonton.
