Clients at the Elmwood Community Resource Center (ECRC) are working on new-to-them electronic equipment thanks to a partnership between the Electronic Recycling Association (ERA), Better Business Bureau serving Manitoba and NW Ontario (BBB) and the BBB Education Foundation of Manitoba. This is the 2nd time ERA and the Winnipeg has donated laptops to the ECRC) after their collection event.
The ERA is excited to announce that the partnership donated 5 laptops that were refurbished following a recycling event held in Winnipeg this past September by the BBB. The ECRC will be using the devices to assist learners of the center with remote learning. The ECRC builds community in Elmwood with resources and supports that make the neighbourhood a great place to love, work and raise a family.
Program’s the ECRC provides:
GOAL Program / Adult Literacy is a FREE literacy program for adult learners 19 and older. Students work on Adult Learning and Literacy curriculum (STAGES) and on independent programs of study to achieve personal learning goals. There is no cost.
The Elmwood Youth Employment Experience (EYEE) is a 17-week paid employment program open to people between the ages of 18 to 30 in Winnipeg. Youth are provided with hands-on experience in resume development, cover letter writing, interview preparation skills, job lead skills, soft skills, and life skills.
Elmwood Neighbourhood Immigrant Settlement Worker (NISW) provides support and information to immigrant newcomers to Canada that live in our Elmwood community. NISW services are confidential. Our settlement worker provides support by connecting newcomers with information, programs, and services in the community. They also conduct one-on-one visits, helping with employment, and providing integration skill workshops.
Ombigiaawsiwin is a traditional childcare practice program that is provided at our 545 Watt street location. Through this program, parents will have a chance to learn about indigenous teachings that can be later used within their own family. Our group always begins and ends with smudging to welcome positive energy when entering and leaving our parenting group.
