By electronic recycling association May 8, 2026

The Electronic Recycling Association (ERA), in partnership with Better Business Bureau serving Mainland BC, successfully hosted a community electronics recycling event at the British Columbia Institute of Technology (BCIT) in Burnaby as part of Earth Month 2026.

The event brought together students, local residents, and businesses to recycle unwanted electronics, protect sensitive information through secure data destruction, and support environmental sustainability.

855 lbs of E-Waste Collected in Burnaby

Participants recycled 855 lbs of electronic waste during the event. The collection helped keep valuable materials out of landfill and highlighted the importance of responsible electronics recycling in Burnaby and across British Columbia.

As demand for e-waste recycling services grows across Canada, community events like this improve awareness and accessibility.

Secure Data Destruction Services

ERA provided secure data destruction services during the event, including physical hard drive destruction demonstrations. Attendees watched the destruction process firsthand and learned how ERA permanently destroys sensitive personal and business data.

ERA operates as an ISO 9001, 14001, 27001 & 45001 Certified organization. These certifications reflect ERA’s commitment to secure data handling, environmental responsibility, workplace safety, and high operational standards.

Supporting Electronics Reuse & the Circular Economy

ERA will process all collected electronics using its reuse-first approach. The technical team will refurbish working devices and donate them to charities, schools, and nonprofit organizations across Canada.

The recycling team will responsibly process non-reusable electronics and recover valuable materials safely. This process supports Canada’s circular economy by extending the life of electronics before recycling them.

Partnership Driving Community Impact

The Burnaby electronics recycling event demonstrated the strong partnership between ERA and Better Business Bureau serving Mainland BC. Both organizations continue to support sustainability, environmental responsibility, and community engagement.

The partnership also helped increase awareness about secure data destruction, electronics recycling, and responsible IT asset disposition (ITAD).

Supporting Sustainability During Earth Month

As part of Earth Month 2026, the event helped:
• Reduce electronic waste in Burnaby
• Promote secure data destruction awareness
• Encourage responsible electronics recycling
• Support local charities through technology reuse

Community events like this encourage people to take practical steps toward sustainability while recycling electronics safely and responsibly.
