The Electronic Recycle Association (ERA) recently donated 5 desktop computers to the Nelson Community Literacy Society in Nelson, BC.
Nestled in the picturesque town of Nelson, the Nelson Community Literacy Society stands as a vital hub, offering a multitude of free programs and computer access for individuals who may otherwise be digitally marginalized. The society plays a crucial role in fostering literacy and bridging the digital divide by providing free computer classes, technology assistance, form-filling aid, and open computer usage for patrons.
What makes the Nelson Community Literacy Society truly exceptional is its commitment to serving a broad spectrum of individuals facing various barriers. The client base is diverse, including Indigenous persons, individuals grappling with mental health challenges, those battling addiction, families living in poverty, members of the LGBTQ2s+ community, persons with disabilities, women, newcomers to Canada, and youth at risk.
The Electronic Recycle Association, recognizing the societal importance of digital access, took a commendable step by donating five desktop computers to the Nelson Community Literacy Society. This donation is not just a transfer of hardware; it symbolizes a commitment to breaking down barriers and empowering those who need it the most.
The computers provided by ERA will serve as essential tools for the society’s clients. Many individuals within these communities face challenges accessing the Internet or encountering barriers to technology elsewhere. The donation ensures that these individuals can participate in computer classes, receive technology assistance, and utilize the computers for their personal and educational needs.
The ERA is focused on reducing unnecessary waste and/or environmental impact through effective management of retiring electronic and IT equipment. As a non-profit organization with deep community roots, it is our “reuse” focus and donation activities that set us apart from others in this sector. We are an ISO 9001:2015, ISO 14001:2015, and ISO 45001:2018 Certified Company that offers pickup services,
comprehensive data security measures and subsequent reporting. Individuals and organizations alike move through technology hardware for a number of different reasons, and often there is ongoing productive use.
The ERA believes that “reuse” where ever possible is the most ecological approach to this growing stream, and an excellent way to compel real community goodwill at the same time.
The Electronic Recycling Association has a clear mission of reducing electronic waste through computer recycling, laptop recycling and computer donation services. With depots throughout Vancouver, Calgary, Edmonton and all of Canada. ERA provides a great way to recycle electronic equipment safely and securely.
