ERA Partners with Canadian Vintage Computer Federation to Preserve Vintage Technology in Canada

By electronic recycling association June 24, 2026

The Electronic Recycling Association (ERA) is proud to announce a new partnership with the Canadian Vintage Computer Federation (CVCFED) to help preserve vintage computers, legacy electronics, and historically significant technology across Canada.

This partnership supports ERA’s ongoing mission to promote responsible electronics reuse, recycling, donation, and preservation. While many retired electronics can be refurbished and donated to charities, schools, nonprofits, and community organizations, some older devices hold important historical value and should be preserved for education, research, and future generations.

Preserving Vintage Technology in Canada

Technology changes quickly. Computers, hard drives, servers, monitors, gaming systems, and office electronics that were once considered advanced can become outdated within only a few years.

However, older technology can still have great value.

Vintage computers and legacy electronics help tell the story of how technology has evolved over time. These devices show how early systems shaped the modern digital world and provide important learning opportunities for students, researchers, collectors, museums, and technology enthusiasts.

Through this partnership, ERA and CVCFED will work together to identify qualifying vintage electronics that may be suitable for preservation instead of immediate recycling.

Why This Partnership Matters

ERA receives a wide range of electronics through its national collection and recycling network. Some items are refurbished and donated, some are reused for parts, and others are responsibly recycled.

With this new partnership, historically significant technology may now also be redirected toward preservation when appropriate.

This initiative helps:

  • Reduce unnecessary electronic waste
  • Support technology preservation in Canada
  • Protect historically important electronics
  • Encourage reuse before recycling
  • Create educational opportunities for future generations
  • Strengthen collaboration between recyclers, museums, collectors, and preservation groups

By working with CVCFED, ERA can help ensure that valuable pieces of Canada’s technology history are not lost.

ERA’s Commitment to Reuse, Recycling, and Preservation

Since 2004, ERA has helped businesses, schools, government offices, nonprofits, and community organizations manage unwanted electronics responsibly.

ERA’s services include secure electronics pickup, data wiping and data destruction, computer refurbishment, technology donation, and responsible electronics recycling.

This partnership with the Canadian Vintage Computer Federation expands ERA’s impact by showing that responsible electronics management is not only about recycling. Sometimes the best outcome is reuse. Sometimes it is donation. And sometimes, preservation matters most.

Do You Have Vintage Electronics?

ERA encourages businesses, organizations, schools, and individuals to contact us before disposing of older electronics.

Items such as vintage computers, legacy hard drives, retro gaming systems, old monitors, keyboards, processors, servers, and other historic technology may be suitable for preservation.

If you have older electronics that may have historical value, ERA can help determine whether the items should be refurbished, donated, preserved, or responsibly recycled.

By working together with partners like the Canadian Vintage Computer Federation, ERA is helping protect important pieces of Canada’s technology history while continuing to reduce electronic waste.

Reuse first. Preserve when it matters. Recycle responsibly.
