The Electronic Recycling Association (ERA) is proud to announce a new partnership with Manitoba Computer & Gaming Museum to preserve vintage computers, legacy gaming systems, and historically significant electronics while continuing to reduce e-waste across Canada.
This partnership reflects ERA’s evolving mission: not only to recycle electronics responsibly, but also to identify older technology that should be reused, restored, or preserved for education and historical value.
Preserving Technology History Through Electronics Reuse
Many outdated devices are no longer practical for modern office use, but that does not mean they have lost all value. Older computers, classic gaming consoles, pre-2000 electronics, and early hardware often hold educational, collectible, and historical importance.
Through this collaboration, qualifying legacy devices received through ERA’s collection network may be redirected for preservation instead of immediate recycling.
This helps ensure that important milestones in computing history are not lost.
Examples of valuable legacy technology may include:
- Vintage desktop computers
- Early laptops
- CRT monitors
- Floppy disk systems
- Retro gaming consoles
- Keyboards, mice, and accessories
- Historic processors and components
Why This Partnership Matters
Technology evolves quickly, and many devices that once changed the world disappear every year through disposal streams.
By partnering with the Manitoba Computer & Gaming Museum, ERA is helping create a smarter path for retired electronics – one that balances sustainability with preservation.
Benefits of this initiative include:
- Reducing unnecessary electronic waste
- Supporting museums and educational exhibits
- Preserving rare technology for future generations
- Encouraging reuse before recycling
- Expanding awareness around responsible e-waste management
ERA’s Leadership in Electronics Recycling and Reuse
Since 2004, Electronic Recycling Association has helped businesses, governments, schools, and organizations manage unwanted electronics through secure pickup, refurbishment, donation, and responsible recycling services.
This new museum partnership demonstrates that e-waste solutions can go beyond disposal.
Sometimes the best environmental outcome is reuse. Sometimes it is donation. And sometimes, preservation matters most.
