Expanding Newcomer Resources Through Electronic Recycling: ERA Gifts Laptops to CCIS

By electronic recycling association December 11, 2025

As part of the Electronic Recycling Association’s (ERA) 12 Days of Electronics Giving, ERA is pleased to announce the donation of five refurbished laptops to the Calgary Catholic Immigration Society (CCIS) to support its settlement, education, and employment programs for newcomers.

This initiative reflects ERA’s commitment to reducing electronic waste, extending the lifespan of technology through reuse, and improving digital access for vulnerable and underserved communities

Supporting Newcomers with Access to Technology

The Calgary Catholic Immigration Society is one of Alberta’s leading newcomer-serving organizations, working with immigrants, refugees, and displaced individuals as they navigate life in Canada.

Access to reliable technology is essential in today’s environment, especially for those seeking:

  • Education and digital skills training
  • Employment opportunities
  • Settlement programs and community resources

By supplying laptop computers, ERA is helping CCIS enhance its capacity to deliver technology-enabled services that empower individuals to build independent and sustainable futures

Bridging the Digital Divide Through Sustainable Solutions

Many newcomer-serving organizations face ongoing challenges in funding updated technology. ERA’s donation helps bridge this gap by providing safe, functional, and certified refurbished devices to frontline agencies that need them most.

This approach not only reduces the environmental impact of e-waste but also ensures greater access to essential digital tools for individuals who might otherwise go without.

ERA’s Commitment to Circular Economy and Community Impact

The 12 Days of Electronics Giving campaign is an annual ERA initiative designed to support local charities, schools, non-profits, and community organizations with essential technology.

It highlights the importance of electronics reuse as a circular economy strategy, demonstrating how surplus equipment can be transformed into valuable community resources.
