At the Electronic Recycling Association, our focus is on refurbishing used electronics for donation to various charities, non-profits, schools, care centers, and individuals in need. Our donations would not be possible without the dedication of our Calgary warehouse team.
ERA’s main processing depot is located in Calgary. The Calgary warehouse team does everything from driving our trucks around picking up your unwanted electronics, refurbishing devices we receive, and testing them for functionality prior to the donation process. Each electronic device that our drivers across Canada pick up is sent to our Calgary processing warehouse. From there, our technicians perform a full data wipe or hard drive destruction, install Windows 10 Pro Operating System, and perform a device test to ensure it is in proper working condition to be donated. Our Calgary team is also responsible for shipping out the electronics we donate to the closest depot to the donor.
Since the ERA also collects non-functioning electronics, our technical team works to strip those devices for their parts. They take motherboards, fans, circuits, hard drives, and more from non-functioning devices. Then, they are able to utilize them towards another piece of equipment. Now that’s impressive and 100% aligned with ERA’s Reuse Mission!
Our technicians help reach ERA’s mission of reducing e-waste and the negative impact it has on our environment. We focus so much on reuse before recycling because today’s electronics contain harmful chemicals that, when exposed to the environment, is harmful to the human body. Reusing electronics through our refurbishment process allows us to reduce the amount of e-waste (and their toxins) that ends up in the landfill.
Admittedly, here in the office, we sometimes have technical problems that we can’t solve. Our warehouse associates are always happy to drop everything to help us get back up and running when the Wi-Fi cuts out or if the printer jams. Just some of the perks of working with skilled IT techs! At the office, we’re organizing various events throughout the year. For a lot of our collection events, we require bringing a collection cage to the event site and some assistance to collect items. Our warehouse associates are always delighted and excited to attend collection events and give us a helping hand.
We welcome the public to drop off your unwanted electronics to our depot and say “hi!” to our team. In Calgary, we’re open Mondays through Fridays, 9AM – 5PM.
