Community Action for Responsible Electronics Recycling

Residents brought a wide variety of unwanted electronics from their homes, garages, and workplaces. Accepted materials included:

  • Desktop computers and laptops
  • Cell phones and tablets
  • Printers and scanners
  • Keyboards, mice, and accessories
  • Networking equipment
  • Servers and specialty electronics
  • Cables and miscellaneous electronics

All collected items entered ERA’s secure electronics management process, where reusable equipment is evaluated first for refurbishment before recycling.

Supporting Reuse and Digital Inclusion

At the Electronic Recycling Association, the mission goes beyond recycling.

Collected devices that remain functional may be:

  • Securely data wiped
  • Professionally tested
  • Refurbished for reuse
  • Donated to charities, schools, and non-profit organizations

With growing demand for access to technology across Canada, every reusable device can help improve access to:

  • Education
  • Employment opportunities
  • Community support programs
  • Essential digital services

By participating in this Saskatoon cleanup event, the Nutana community helped reduce waste while supporting meaningful social impact.

Why Electronics Recycling Matters

Improper disposal of electronics contributes to landfill waste and environmental harm. Responsible e-waste recycling ensures that hazardous materials are safely handled and valuable resources are recovered.

ERA’s reuse-first model helps:

  • Extend the life of electronics
  • Reduce landfill waste
  • Recover reusable materials
  • Lower environmental impact
  • Support a circular economy

Community events like this show how neighbourhood partnerships can make a measurable difference.
