Scarborough Town Centre Celebrates Earth Month With ERA

By electronic recycling association April 25, 2022

The Electronic Recycling Association (ERA) was delighted to have partnered with the Oxford Properties Group and the Scarborough Town Centre for an electronics collection event on honour of Earth Day.

“Just wanted to say “Thank You” for all of your assistance in executing a very successful E- Waste Community Drive. We collected a lot of material that can be repurposed for charity. Your attendant was very knowledge and pleasant to work with,” said the Manager of Scarborough Town Centre.

We did not have the best weather but that did not stop the community of Scarborough, ON from attending the event to donate unwanted electronic devices such as hard drives, computers, laptops, phones, tablets, tapes and other small devices storing sensitive data.  After the event ERA technicians ensured that data from the devices is securely removed, operational equipment is refurbished for reuse, and the rest is recycled in a responsible manner.

Scarborough Town Centre (STC) is committed to sustainability. In celebration of Earth Month, they have highlighted some green initiatives:

  1. Solar Panels- With 929 panels and 11 inverters, our rooftop panel installation is one of the largest in the Greater Toronto Area. It supplies the annual energy requirements for an average-sized STC store.
  • Rooftop Beehives- We proudly house 50,000 bees which are housed in two of our rooftop beehives. The bees contribute to biodiversity and provide a food source.
  • Recycling- To ensure we are reducing our waste impact, we are equipped with nine compactors where all cardboard, paper, bottles, cans and plastics are recycled.
  • Multiple bicycle stands are available for our shoppers at Entrance 1 and 6.

Collect Unwanted Electronic Items With Ease

The ERA can provide a variety of collection receptacles for ongoing use at no charge. The purpose of these collection bins is to offer an accessible solution for disposing of unwanted computers and handheld devices. The ERA will deliver your choice of electronic recycling containers to be placed in a location where they will be most beneficial. The ERA would then either set up regularly occurring pick-up dates on an ongoing basis (weekly, monthly, quarterly) and/or pick-up and empty (or replace) these receptacles as necessary and requested.

Onsite recycling bins offer a simple solution for the donation of unwanted items, they’re also great for illustrating your organization’s commitment to green business practices and community investment.

In addition, if you are a charitable organization in need of computers, helping the ERA with a collection event will entitle you to priority status on our donations request list!

About Electronic Recycling Association (ERA)

The Electronic Recycling Association (ERA) is a non-profit organization founded in 2004 to address the growing problem of e-waste and the increasing ‘digital divide’. For over fifteen years, ERA has offered simple solutions to help individuals and organizations prevent operational equipment from premature destruction. With a focus on recovery, refurbishment, and reuse, ERA continuously supplies charitable groups with donated IT equipment while securely managing the retiring IT assets of organizations and individuals across Canada. We believe that reuse before recycling is critical in managing the waste created by computer hardware, and by offering industry-leading data destruction for all equipment we receive, we have securely repurposed hundreds of tons of equipment. Because not everything ERA receives can be reasonably repurposed, we have partnered with certified recycling organizations to process equipment that has reached the end of its productive life.
