The Electronic Recycling Association (ERA) was proud to take part in the Sustainable Living Expo at the Dalhousie Community Association in Calgary on September 26, 2026.
The event brought together local residents, organizations, and sustainability-focused initiatives to promote practical ways to reduce waste, reuse valuable resources, and make more environmentally responsible choices.
As part of the Expo, ERA hosted an electronics recycling and collection area, giving Calgary residents a convenient opportunity to drop off unwanted electronics for responsible reuse and recycling.
By the end of the event, ERA had collected approximately 452 lbs of electronics.
452 lbs of Electronics Collected in Calgary
The electronics collected during the Sustainable Living Expo included a mix of unwanted household and personal technology brought in by members of the community.
ERA’s team collected the material onsite and transported it for further processing.
Once received at ERA’s facility, electronics are assessed to determine whether they can be reused, refurbished, securely processed, or responsibly recycled.
ERA follows a reuse-first approach, meaning suitable equipment is given the opportunity for a second life whenever possible.
Reusable technology may be refurbished and redirected to charities, schools, nonprofits, students, and community organizations through ERA’s donation programs.
Equipment that cannot be reused is responsibly recycled.
ERA at the Sustainable Living Expo
In addition to collecting electronics, ERA participated in the Expo as a community partner.
The event provided an opportunity for residents to meet the ERA team and learn more about:
- Electronics reuse and recycling
- Secure data destruction
- IT asset disposition
- Technology refurbishment
- Computer donations
- ERA’s Computer Grant Program
- Community electronics collection events
- Responsible technology management
The ERA booth also gave attendees an opportunity to ask questions about old electronics, data security, and what happens to devices after they are collected.
Working With the Dalhousie Community Association
ERA would like to thank the Dalhousie Community Association and the Sustainable Living Expo team for welcoming ERA and including electronics recycling as part of the event.
Partnerships with local community organizations play an important role in making responsible electronics recycling more accessible.
By working together, organizations can create convenient collection opportunities while raising awareness about reuse, waste reduction, and responsible technology disposal.
ERA values opportunities to work with community associations, municipalities, businesses, schools, nonprofits, and event organizers across Canada.
Creating Community Impact Through Reuse
Electronics recycling is not only about removing unwanted technology.
Whenever possible, ERA focuses on finding opportunities to reuse and refurbish equipment before recycling it.
A laptop or computer that is no longer needed by one person may still be useful to a charity, student, school, or community organization.
Through ERA’s Computer Grant Program, refurbished technology can be redirected to organizations that need access to reliable devices for education, employment, communication, community programming, and other essential activities.
This approach helps create both an environmental impact and a community impact.
Host an Electronics Recycling Event With ERA
ERA works with organizations across Canada to organize electronics collection events for communities, workplaces, schools, residential properties, and public events.
Depending on the event, ERA can assist with:
- Collection cages and bins
- Electronics pickup and transportation
- Event banners and promotional materials
- Accepted-items information
- Secure data processing
- Data destruction
- Collection certificates
- Recycling and reuse
- Technology donation opportunities
- Social media and event promotion
If your organization is planning a community event, sustainability initiative, cleanup day, or electronics collection campaign, ERA can help coordinate the process from collection through final processing.
Thank You, Calgary
