Transforming Healthcare Research with Electronic Recycling

By electronic recycling association June 25, 2025

The Electronic Recycling Association (ERA) is proud to support innovation in healthcare through a meaningful donation to Upstream Lab, a nonprofit research organization based in Toronto. This donation – a refurbished laptop – will help advance their mission to improve public health by addressing the social determinants of health and building equitable, community-driven systems of care.

Upstream Lab operates under the MAP Centre for Urban Health Solutions at St. Michael’s Hospital (Unity Health Toronto). The lab focuses on designing and implementing real-world innovations that improve social conditions and health outcomes.

ERA is a Canadian nonprofit organization that, for over 20 years, has been reducing electronic waste while supporting hundreds of charities across the country by donating refurbished computer equipment to those who need it most.

We believe that technology is a powerful tool that can significantly enhance the work of organizations striving to make a difference. This laptop will assist Upstream Lab in managing research projects, strengthening internal collaboration, and expanding outreach – supporting their role as leaders in evidence-based, community-focused healthcare reform.

Get Involved

Across Canada, ERA continues to receive requests from charities in need of technology.
Currently, more than 500 organizations are on our waitlist, hoping to receive devices that will help them offer educational programs, employment support, digital access, and essential community services. A gently used laptop or tablet may seem small – but for someone else, it can be life-changing.
