Jarvis Community Christian School launches electronics recycling fundraiser with ERA

By electronic recycling association May 15, 2026

Electronic Recycling Association is partnering with Jarvis Community Christian School for an electronics recycling fundraiser aimed at supporting the school community while helping reduce electronic waste through responsible reuse and recycling.

The “Moolah for Macros” fundraiser will run from June 1 to June 11, 2026, with electronics being collected at Jarvis Community Christian School in Jarvis. Community members are encouraged to drop off unwanted electronics that can be reused or responsibly recycled through ERA’s program.

Events like this help keep electronics out of landfills while giving communities a practical way to support local initiatives. Many people have unused devices sitting in storage, whether it’s old laptops, cables, monitors, or computer accessories. Instead of throwing them away, these items can often still serve a purpose through refurbishment, reuse, or responsible recycling.

Supporting the community through technology reuse

Community recycling fundraisers continue to be an important way for schools and local organizations to bring people together around a shared goal. In this case, the fundraiser supports both environmental responsibility and school fundraising efforts at the same time.

Electronic waste is one of the fastest-growing waste streams worldwide, and many devices contain materials that should not end up in landfills. Through programs like this, communities can take a more responsible approach to managing unwanted electronics while also supporting local causes.

For students, events like this also create opportunities to learn more about sustainability and the importance of reducing waste. Small community initiatives can make a meaningful impact when people work together, especially when it comes to responsible technology disposal and reuse.

ERA continues to work with schools, charities, nonprofits, and businesses across Canada to help extend the life cycle of electronics whenever possible. By collecting and processing retired technology responsibly, these partnerships help reduce waste and support communities at the same time.

Why reuse comes before recycling

At ERA, reuse is always prioritized before recycling.

Many donated electronics still contain usable components or can be refurbished for continued use. Extending the lifespan of technology helps reduce unnecessary waste and lowers the environmental impact connected to manufacturing new devices.

When electronics can no longer be reused, they are responsibly recycled through approved recycling processes. This helps recover valuable materials while ensuring devices are handled in an environmentally responsible way.

Responsible electronics recycling also helps reduce the risks associated with improper disposal and unsecured data. Programs like this give individuals and organizations a safer and more sustainable option for getting rid of unwanted technology.

As technology continues to evolve, community collection events remain an important part of reducing e-waste and encouraging responsible disposal habits.
