Successful Partnership: ERA and City of Burnaby Collect 1,565 lbs of E-Waste

By electronic recycling association October 9, 2026

The Electronic Recycling Association (ERA) is proud to celebrate another successful community electronics recycling event in partnership with the City of Burnaby.

On Friday, October 2, 2026, residents gathered at the Burnaby Eco-Centre for the Fraud Prevention: Secure Hard Drive Destruction & Electronics Recycling event, held in recognition of Cyber Security Awareness Month.

Thanks to the enthusiastic participation of local residents, the dedication of the City of Burnaby team, and the efforts of ERA’s Vancouver operations team, the event successfully collected 1,565 pounds of unwanted electronics for responsible processing.

The initiative highlighted the importance of secure data destruction, fraud prevention, environmental responsibility, and community collaboration.

A Successful Day for the Burnaby Community

Throughout the event, Burnaby residents brought unwanted computers, laptops, hard drives, and other electronic equipment for secure disposal and recycling.

The initiative provided free electronics recycling and secure hard drive destruction services while raising awareness about protecting sensitive information and responsibly managing outdated technology.

Following the collection, ERA’s technical team continued processing the equipment, including secure data wiping and additional destruction procedures where required.

By participating, residents helped reduce electronic waste while supporting safer technology disposal practices.

Supporting the Circular Economy Through Electronics Reuse

At ERA, electronics recycling is about more than collecting outdated devices.

Our mission focuses on reducing electronic waste by identifying opportunities to refurbish and reuse technology whenever possible.

Reusable equipment may be refurbished and donated to charities, nonprofit organizations, schools, and community initiatives that need access to technology.

Electronics that cannot be reused are directed toward responsible recycling processes.

Community events like this help extend the life of usable technology, conserve resources, and promote a more sustainable future.

A Partnership Built on Community Safety and Sustainability

ERA is incredibly grateful for its continued partnership with the City of Burnaby and its commitment to community safety, fraud prevention, and environmental sustainability.

We would especially like to thank Susan Salame, Supervisor of Crime Prevention Services, and the entire City of Burnaby team for their excellent coordination, promotion, and support throughout the event.

From early planning and community outreach to event-day coordination, their dedication played an important role in making this initiative a success.

We also extend our sincere appreciation to ERA’s Vancouver operations team for their hard work and to every Burnaby resident who participated.

Your support helped make this event a meaningful success, with 1,565 pounds of electronics collected!

ERA truly values its ongoing relationship with the City of Burnaby. We are proud of what we have accomplished together and look forward to continuing this partnership through future community initiatives.
